Calicut/Kerala: The Grand Mufti of India, Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, has demanded accountability for the irregularities in national exams, including NEET, which have adversely affected lakhs of students across the country. Those responsible for these irregularities, along with their supporters, must be held accountable and punished. He called for a reconsideration of the unified NEET exam system and urged the Center to allow states to conduct their entrance exams independently under the supervision of the National Testing Agency. He made these remarks during a press release held in Calicut on June 26, as part of the 99th foundation day of Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama.
Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad also highlighted the alarming increase in "Bulldozer Raj" across the country. Reports of arbitrary crackdowns targeting minority communities, including the demolition of places of residence and worship, are emerging from various states. Recently, a masjid in Mangolpuri was demolished without prior notice. Similar incidents have occurred with Christian churches in Delhi. These actions carried out without proper notification to the management of the places of worship, are a denial of fundamental justice. "The Supreme Court should issue guidelines to prevent such evictions from recurring. The Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama. is considering approaching the Supreme Court on this matter," he said.
The press conference also briefed that the Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama. has initiated efforts to form a national-level coordination of community leaders to protect the constitutional rights of minority communities. Communities in India, such as Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs, are facing similar challenges that need to be addressed collectively through democratic and constitutional means. To achieve this, discussions will be held with minority community leaders, including those in Kerala. Any move to alienate minorities cannot be tolerated.
Additionally, the conference demanded that the Kerala government issue a white paper on the assertion that Muslims are receiving undue benefits in Kerala. The government must clarify any such misconceptions and should issue a white paper detailing the representation of various communities in political power and government jobs. Samastha Vice President Sayyid Ali Bafaqi Koyilandy and Secretary, Sayyid Ibraheemul Khaleel Al Bukhari also attended the press conference.
